Welcome, young climate warrior! We are really excited to have you on board.

At Young Climate Warriors, we want to help you learn about and respond to climate change. To provide our services and make them better, we collect and use some information about you, such as your name, your age, and your email address.
We respect your privacy and want to protect it.
To show you how we go about it, we have written this text called a ‘privacy policy’. It explains how we look after your information and how the law protects you. Please read it carefully.
Privacy policies can be a bit long and confusing. We have done our best to make this nice and clear, but if there is anything you are not sure about, please do ask an adult to help you.
Definitions
1. In this privacy policy, you will come across the following definitions:
“Personal Information” - means all information that you give to Young Climate Warriors on this Website, via post, phone email or otherwise, which might help identify you.
“Cookies” - are small text files placed on your computer when you visit or use certain parts of the Website. Details of the Cookies used by this Website are set out from paragraph 18below.
“Young Climate Warriors”, “we” or “us” - means Young Climate Warriors of Henley On Thames, RG9. You can contact us at hello@youngclimatewarriors.org;
“UK and EU Cookie Law” - is the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 as amended by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2011;
“User” or “you” - means any person that accesses the Website and is not either: (i) an employee of Young Climate Warriors and acting in the course of their employment, or (ii) engaged as a consultant or otherwise providing services to Young Climate Warriors and accessing the Website in connection with the provision of such services; and
“Website” - means the website that you are currently using, www.youngclimatewarriors.org, and any sub-domains of this Website unless expressly excluded by their own terms and conditions.
“Challenge” - means the weekly challenge that is sent out to all users.

What is the purpose of this privacy policy?
2. This privacy policy explains how Young Climate Warriors collects and uses your Personal Information.

Who collects your Personal Information?
3. Your Personal Information is collected by Young Climate Warriors, a registered charity, which aims to empower children and young people like yourself to combat climate change.

4. For the purposes of the General Data Protections Regulation (2016), Young Climate Warriors is a “controller”. This is a legal way of saying that we are responsible for determining why and how your information gets processed.
5. This Website may also include links to other websites, plug-ins and applications. Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow other persons or companies to collect certain pieces of your Personal Information, such as your IP address or information about Cookies. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their own privacy policies. When you leave this Website, please make sure to read the privacy policy on every website you visit.
What Personal Information do we collect?
6. We may collect the following Personal Information from you:
(A) your name;
(B) your age;
(C) your contact information such as email addresses and telephone numbers;
(D) the town you live in and name of the school you attend;
(E) how you heard about Young Climate Warriors;
(F) your activity on this Website;
(G) your IP address, cookie data and other technical information;
(H) the information you send us in emails to show you have completed the Challenge;
in each case, in accordance with this privacy policy.

How do we collect your Personal Information?
7. We use different methods to collect your Personal Information, including through:
(A) direct interactions: you may give us information by filling in online forms or by contacting us by post, phone, email or otherwise; and
(B) automated technologies or interactions: as you browse our website, we will automatically collect technical data about your equipment, browsing actions and patterns (please see paragraphs 18to 24for further details on Cookies).
How do we use your Personal Information?
8. We only use your Personal Information when the law allows us to. We may use it in the following circumstances:
(A) for internal record keeping;
(B) to provide you with information about Young Climate Warriors, including any upcoming events;
(C) to send you Challenges and to send you certificates and let your school know of your achievement when you successfully complete a series of Challenges;
(D) for market research purposes so that we can continue to improve the quality of our organisation for the benefit of our Users;
(E) to aid our understanding of how visitors use this Website, and how Users respond to our weekly challenges email, and other limited relevant purposes;
(F) to help you make the most out of all features and functions available on this Website.
9. We may also use your Personal Information where it is necessary for our legitimate interests.
(A) Using your Personal Information for “legitimate interests” is a legal way of saying that the law allows us to use your Personal Information for certain purposes.
(B) We have a legitimate interest in using your Personal Information:
(i) to contact you for the purposes of the weekly Challenges and to send you and your school certificates when you successfully complete a series of Challenges;
(ii) to provide you with information about any Young Climate Warriors-related updates, events and news;
(iii) to provide you with the best possible service and experience while using the Website; and/or
(iv) to comply with any legal obligations to which we may be subject.
(C) We will always balance our legitimate interests against your rights and freedoms before using your Personal Information.
How long do we keep your Personal Information for?
10. We will only retain your Personal Information for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which we have collected it.
Do we share your Personal Information with anyone else?
11. Unless we are obliged or permitted by law to do so, and subject to any third party disclosures specifically set out in this policy, your Personal Information will not be shared with any other persons or companies.
12. Young Climate Warriors may share cumulative information about number of subscribers and number of Challenges completed with schools that are encouraging and supporting the Young Climate Warriors initiative.
13. As mentioned above, we may let your school know of your achievement when you successfully complete a series of Challenges.
14. Young Climate Warriors may, from time to time, employ the services of other persons or companies for dealing with certain processes necessary for the operation of the Website. The providers of such services (which include, without limitation, Mailchimp and Google Analytics) may have access to certain Personal Information you have provided to us.
15. ​Any Personal Information used by such parties is used only to the extent required by them to perform the services that we request. Any use for other purposes is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, any information that is accessed or used by these companies or persons will be handled within the terms of this privacy policy and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (2016).
What are your rights when it comes to your Personal Information?
16. When it comes to your Personal Information, the law gives you the following rights:
(A) Right of access. You may ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
(B) Right to correct the Personal Information we hold about you. You can ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete information we hold about you.
(C) Right to object. You can object to us using your information if we are using it for the purpose of our legitimate interests (please see paragraph 9above). If we agree that your objection is justified, we will permanently stop using your information for those purposes. Otherwise we will explain why we need to continue using your information.
(D) Right to withdraw consent. Where we have asked your permission to your Personal Information, you may withdraw your permission at any time by emailing us at the contact details set out in this privacy policy and we will stop using your information for that purpose.
(E) Right to erasure. In certain cases, you have the right to ask us to “erase” your personal information. Normally, you can do this where:
(i) It’s no longer necessary for us to use your information;
(ii) We were relying on your consent to use your information and you have withdrawn your consent;
(iii) Your information needs to be erased in order for us to comply with our obligations under law; or
(iv) You object to the processing and we do not have a compelling reason to continue using it.

(F) Right to restrict our use of your Personal Information.You can ask us to suspend our use of your personal information in certain circumstances. For example, during the time it takes us to respond to your request to correct the information we hold about you.
(G) Right to move your Personal Information. You have the right to ask us to transfer certain personal information we hold about you to another third party service provider. Alternatively, you may ask us to transfer the information directly to you.
(H) Rights relating to automated decisions. In certain circumstances, you may contest a decision made about you based on automated processing. We do not generally make decisions based solely on automated processing of your personal data, but when we do so, we will let you know.
(I) Right to complain.You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority, which is the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.
How do we protect your Personal Information?
17. ​Data security is of great importance us. We make sure we keep all of your Personal Information safe and secure. We do our best to protect your Personal Information. However, sending information over the internet is never entirely safe and is done at your own risk. We cannot ensure the security of your Personal Information transmitted to the Website.

What if something changes?
25. Young Climate Warriors reserves the right to change this privacy policy as we may deem necessary from time to time or as may be required by law. Any changes will be immediately posted on the Website.
